Ryukyu Kobudo. (Renshi). Teacher’s and Dojo licence issued by Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai, Okinawa, Japan. Experience in old weapons martial arts of Okinawa as a practitioner, instructor and competition judge.
Japanese Sword Arts. (6th Dan). Practitioner of old sword arts of Japan. Member of the Zen Nippon Iai-Do Renmei, Kyoto, Japan and the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, Kyoto, Japan and Okinawa, Japan. Practitioner.
Practical Shooting. Instructor’s licence issued by South African Institute or Range Officers and Instructors (SAIRO) (License not current). Experienced in practical shooting, safety, competition judging and handling of small arms.
I joined the South African Air Force at the age of 16 and started Karate under Sensei Johan Roets, Chief Instructor of Shukokai Ryu, South Africa. Job opportunities allowed me to live in various locations around South Africa, giving me opportunity to practice at a variety of Martial arts Dojo of various styles, both empty hand and weapons forms. My wife Penny and I moved to Okinawa in April 1995 for the purpose of training Okinawan weapons arts at the Hombu Dojo of the Late Dai Sensei Eisuku Akamine . We spent the years with the Ryukyu Kobudo Group and the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Group in Okinawa till we left for a work opportunity in Budapest, Hungary at the end of 2015.
At present we are practicing/training in Budapest.
